Over the last 10 or so years, Joe supported first-response technology initiatives in Haiti, West Africa, Afghanistan and Kenya. In 2019, Joe co-led an emergency preparedness symposium for the Afghanistan government, he went to Haiti just after the 2010 earthquake to re-connect NGO and UN agencies and in response to the Somali refugee crisis of 2011, Joe managed a project to greatlyimprove the connectivity in the Dadaab refugee camps. See a short video here.
Joe's has camped on the Masai Mare, visited with the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, Ol Pejeta Conservancy, Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary, Green Belt Movement, Giraffe Centre and other conservation projects in Kenya, South Africa and Ghana. Overall, these experiences influenced Joe's decisions to purchase and use the farm for animal rescue, conservation and the next generation of organic farmers.
